LorenMUD
What is this?
We are text based roleplay intensive fantasy adventure that is a built on top of the ROM 2.4b6 codebase, commonly referred to as a MUD (multi-user dungeon).

Wait, why ROM?
It's not just ROM! Useful features from other open source codebases (Smaug, Moosehead Sled, Crimson Skies) and many other authors have been included into our core. In addition, ROM has been cleaned up, modernized (where applicable) and modified to become a stable platform for us to build upon going forward. To that end, we're really excited.

Roleplay you say?
Yeah, RPI (roleplay intensive) to be exact. We're trying to cultivate a medieval fantasy world that provides a deep storyline to support the hack and slash aspects of our game. It's no easy task but we feel that we've created something that can be enjoyed by everyone and still feel immersive.

One hundred and twenty years ago, the prisoners of the penal colony on the Terran Moon rebelled. They rose up against their wardens in an explosion of violence and broke free of their chains, seizing control of the colony in less than a month. One after one, the lunar outposts fell to this coalition of former prisoners until the last remnants of the overseers were forced to flee into a fortified biodome known as the Hyperion Platform. There they have stayed ever since.

As the liberated prisoners pillaged the colony, its structures fell into ruin. Unchecked mayhem and brutality led to the destruction of many vital facilities, and soon the atmospheric generators themselves were starting to fail. As the habitable zone shrank, the prisoners found themselves corralled into an increasingly smaller area of the Moon. Here they settled, founding the town of Rust around the impregnable fortress of Hyperion. So began a century of strife, hardship, bloodshed and alliances.

These days, Rust is a sea of slums surrounding the biodome of the Hyperion Platform, a labyrinth of squalor and destitution. Six generations have passed since the prisoners overthrew their wardens, and few spare much thought to the origins of the settlement. Outside Rust, the Moon is a perilous wasteland littered with the ruins of outposts and work camps, some of which have been picked clean long ago while others are still combed by scavengers. Most denizens of the Moon prefer to stay in town, however, as the hazards of the lunar plains are well known.

The political climate of Rust is one of constant quarrel and competition. There are three major factions at play: the New Guard, Block Nine, and the Red Company. Each has its agenda and its patch of turf carved out of the town's geography, and the only neutral ground of the settlement is its market. Countless turf wars, rivalries, claims and disputes have taken place, and the rise and fall of leaders has been a constant feature of Rust's sordid society for generations. There is never a true winner, but always plenty of losers.

The denizens of the Moon, descendants of the prisoners who hailed from four different worlds in the Terran Planetary Federation, have not heard from their homes since the rebellion. Many choose to forget about the past, and indeed not much is known as literacy is all but extinct on this abandoned rock. People can trace their biological heritage to Earth or one of its colonies, some of which have environments that produce distinctive sub-species, but no one has any real knowledge of their ancestry save that they have all descended from the prisoners of the colony.

Hyperion is an intriguing mystery to the denizens of Rust. It consists of an enormous metal platform upon which is a reflective biodome, and it is presumed that the last of the wardens - or their descendants - live inside. Stories of untold luxuries and prosperity abound, every Ruster dreaming of breaking into the city inside and escaping the foul, hazardous and thoroughly depleted wasteland of the Moon. They have waited for that very moment for one hundred and twenty years.

The Burning Post II
[play=burningpost2.co.uk:4321]

The Burning Post II is a roleplaying-enforced MUD set on a small island that has been ravaged by mages, demons, and invading forces. The roleplay primarily revolves around mages and the priests/knights that hunt them. The code has been upgraded substantially in the past year, and the staff looks forward to welcoming new players interested in seeing exactly what we have to offer. Most character concepts don't require immortal approval, so once you get your character looking as you'd like and set the appropriate skills, you can jump right in the game!

In addition to the Orderites and Reeves, guilds include the merchants, the thieves (Brotherhood), the Chimerists (a scholarly organization), and the reeves (secular law enforcement).

We hope to see you in New Yarsith!

The Final Challenge
[play=mud.finalchallenge.net:4000]

The cave is dark, shadows stretching across the stone floor like reaching fingers. Pine needles scatter the floor, tossed in by the ever present breeze that flows over these southern mountains. Faint traces of moonlight from outside are all that illuminate its single occupant. The warrior moans in his sleep, the evidence of uneasy dreams written clearly across his face. Crying out, he thrashes madly, warning in incoherent mumbles of the terror to come. On his guard even in sleep, his hand shifts to grasp his blade. The low hoot of an owl marks the hour of midnight. With a loud CRACK! a portal opens, and you are faced with the choice: Dare you enter this realm of dreams within the mind of the sleeper? Or will you flee this nightmare?

Live since 1994, The Final Challenge MUD has continued to grow and evolve with an active coding staff. TFC has unique opportunities for adventure, roleplaying and exploration. A God-Follower system, RP, PK, PVP and PVE, automated quests, multiple home cities for each of the eleven races, 8 classes including a custom Bard class and over 150 zones almost all of which you won't find anywhere else makes The Final Challenge a mud for experienced player and newcomer to muds alike.

Come and explore our website or our very extensive player run wiki, which includes biographies of Immortals and Players, maps, world and racial histories, help for new players and many many gameplay logs.

The Inquisition: Legacy
[play=ti-legacy.com:5050]

One of the oldest role-play MUDs around, The Inquisition began in 1999 with an original theme and has been programmed and designed for immersive RP ever since. The Inquisition Legacy represents a re-opening of The Inquisition II with a new immortal staff.

Our world embraces the culture of oppression in its desparate goal to destroy all those who use magic. Inquisitors terrorize the populace, and mages hide as best they can until their moment arrives to strike back.

Our setting is rich in the manner only a game developed for over twelve years can be, and we have a superb base of creative, intense, and devoted players that drive our Machiavellian-style RP.

In turn, our players are supported by intuitive system tools that help them realize the extent of their storytelling capacity: They can modify room descriptions during RP, masquerade under aliases, spread rumors, keep track of IC events, make and sell objects, and much more.

Experience gained through RP can be used in an account to improve their other characters, and finding RP is as easy as typing 'where'.

FEATURES:
  • Developed solely for an intense role-play experience (RPI MUD).
  • A unique emote-based combat system.
  • A support system that adds social intelligence to our IC politics.
  • Hands-off staff policies designed to help players shine.
  • A magic system built to intrinsically support the RP theme.
  • A remember system allowing players to customize how they see others.
  • Automated Role-play rewards for advancement without staff interaction or approval.
  • Player revamping of rooms with mood text and a high degree of  world customization to suit RP scenes.
  • A detailed crafting system and realistic economy to support it.
  • A shop system for players to sell their own wares.
  • Code-enforced privacy policies to respect player RP and prevent staff spying.
  • A snapshot activity system to dynamically reserve roles and  authority for current players instead of entrenching old players versus new.
