For one, we'd like to offer a modern web-based app to help players discover quality games and play them wherever they are.
We would also like to provide a place for players and MUD developers to exchange ideas that will benefit the community.

Try now. You're supposed to get automatically approved for the forum but it seems to not work ATM.
Slowness during registration is probably due to the server sendmail setting. Will work on that, too.
Thank you all for testing.

What i was talking about is it was stuck on the registration page for 2-5minutes, and i got the email before the page loaded, issue wasnt with the email it was with the actual registration page with a hourglass timer on it!!
Clicked on the site the email told me to and had managed to actually connect still before the registration had completed....

I however did not have the same issues Tijer had, the webpage loaded after signing up, and then I got the email. So I am not too sure if that is the issue.

2. Can we get an option to configure how many posts are shown per page on a thread? Or at least increase the default.

Lyanic wrote: 1. What is the intended future function of the Play Now button? Will it link to a random MUD? Will it go to some kind of questionnaire like the thing TMC tried to do last year? Right now it just links to Bedlam.
The idea is to send guests and new users to a pseudo-random MUD (one of the more attractive and lively ones so they would be more likely to stick around). Existing users will be sent to their last-accessed MUD.
I'm working actively on everything. Integrating the app with the site and opening it up to any game is a good chunk of work.

Default set to 20. I exposed "Forum Preferences" in the User Menu, but it doesn't seem to have that as one of the configurable options. We'll add things like that, eventually.

This should be fixed now.

Should be faster than before.

Any function on the site which generates an e-mail hangs for 30-180 seconds. Plamzi says he's aware of it, though. I've got a couple ideas of what it could be, given that I have some experience with things like sendmail, exim4, etc (not sure precisely what setup is being used).

This should be fixed for good now.
To answer an earlier question, I could use help with pretty much anything site-related. Depends on how people want to contribute and what skill-set they bring. HTML(5) / CSS, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, or admin / moderator roles mostly done via a web-based back end (Joomla).

Also, what is the recommended image size for media associated with game listings?
Edit: Testing the edit functionality + noticed something else: The comment/post #s are per site instead of per thread.

Are you by any chance pasting text from a text editor like Word? If so, try to paste the text into Notepad first to strip any HTML formatting it's going to try to generate when you paste.
The WYSIWYG editor (TinyMCE) is one of the best out there, but it takes some getting used to. It makes the wrong calls sometimes when it comes to formatting things. I'll improve the styling options for it soon, but there's only so much I can do from the outside.
Lyanic wrote: Also, what is the recommended image size for media associated with game listings?
It's 180x180. I'm going to insert some tips in the listing generation form. Also, you should now have a link for editing your listings in your User Menu.

Do you mean the number displayed under a user's avatar inside a thread?

No. When I submitted my game listing, I first tried copy/pasting directly from another MU* listing, but I saw immediately how that broke the formatting. So, I copy/pasted it into notepad, then from there copy/pasted to the editor on here. The final posted format still differed from the way it appeared on preview. With the God Wars II review I submitted, I typed that in completely by hand - formatting again wonky. Is there even a way to edit reviews once they've been posted?plamzi wrote: Are you by any chance pasting text from a text editor like Word? No. I mean the number displayed in the top right corner of each post. For instance, your post that I'm replying to is "#40", which is the 40th post on the site, but not the 40th in this thread.plamzi wrote: Do you mean the number displayed under a user's avatar inside a thread?
Edit: Nevermind on editing of the player reviews. I found the button and edited it. Also, it looks like that one had the formatting changed manually to insert a page break and split the paragraphs in a different way.

How did it differ? Was it a question of fonts or the automatic layout of the image, or was it formatting you did inside the editor not showing up or showing up incorrectly?

You found out that you see an "edit" link below your article body when you navigate to it. I'll soon add a page where you can edit all your articles in one place.

Good eye. Changed.

I made some edits to the review prior to publishing it.

Yes. It seems to strip out some whitespace (like tabs) and EOL characters. I'm not running into the issue anymore, but the second time I edited my game listing, it looked fine in the preview function, then when it posted - it was very jumbled. I've fixed it for now.plamzi wrote: was it formatting you did inside the editor not showing up or showing up incorrectly?

Some suggestions:
1) Link reviews to the game they belong to so they appear on search results for the game.
2) Add some additional searchable options to game listings (might require some more discussion).
3) Would it be possible to support RSS feeds for subscriptions instead of e-mailed alerts/summaries?

Lyanic wrote: I found another 403 when I click on Find A Game -> Theme/Sci-Fi.
Got that one, too. I guess I have to unpublish the menu item until there are some listings in that category.
Lyanic wrote: 1) Link reviews to the game they belong to so they appear on search results for the game.
How did you search for the game? When I added the meta keywords "godwars" to your review, I was able to see it in site search. "God wars" was already matching it.
Apparently, the component I'm using to handle MUD listings doesn't let me cross-link to articles from listings very easily, the way I can add external links. Will have to be coerced a bit at some point.
Lyanic wrote: 3) Would it be possible to support RSS feeds for subscriptions instead of e-mailed alerts/summaries?
Looks like out-of-the-box there is only one global RSS feed for the whole forum. Unfortunately, something seems broken about it. Will look into it.
